Literature Text

I will never forget what happened,
To my family and the other Jews.
My faith was stong and bold,
But then was lost to Hitler's soldiers.
I often dream of those times,
They're the worst memories I've ever known.
the one's of Hitler's crimes,
And those who brought my father's death.
"Don't let yourself go under" He pleaded,
"You must resist. Stay alive."
"Don't fall into eternal slumber."
Near me, men were falling into the snow, Dead.
It's been so long since they closed their eyes,
"Let me sleep too, son." Father said, "I can't go on.."
No one answered my father's cries,
And soon, in my father's place was another invalid.
I couldn't cry for his death, I had no tears in me,
But this is what the concentration camps did.
They stripped us of our humanity,
And from the depths of the mirror I looked.
A corpse stared back at me,
The dead look in it's eyes will never leave me...

Witten as if I was Elie Wiesel.
This is a project I did for English class today. It is a found poem.

:bulletorange: Found Poetry;; A form of poetry in which the author complies their poem from quotes out of a larger work.

That "larger work" in this case was a novel, Night, by Elie Wiesel. A book I very strongly recommend. However, I will say, it is very emotional and dark. It contains a lot of death and visualizes the unthinkable. Please read it, it's amazing.

The book is about the holocaust. And actually, the main character is the very same author. He wrote a book about how he survived and what he did to live and what he witnessed. He is separated from his mother and sister(who were sent to be burned alive right away) and had to do everything he could to not be killed.
Unfortunatly, his father dies in the years he was at the concentration camps. As you can tell from the poem. Please read it, it's good. :)
